Cambridge Boiler Services had a simple brief. Create a web site to ‘get us more work’. They had previously approached a design company in Peterborough who had taken over nine months to produce a simple visual. Cambridge Boiler Services are plumbers and as a small business were busy earning money and had never had a web site before. To be asked for copy, pictures, even the navigation system worried them greatly.
After their initial approach to us, we decided to do some ‘keyword research’, something not done before. This keyword research tells us if anyone is looking for the services provided. Initially we researched ‘air source heat pumps’, which the company supplied. This research showed that money spent producing a site based on this keyword phrase would not work so we declined the work.
We undertook further research, based on the words that fit plumbers, ie ‘plumbing’, ‘drainage’, ‘bathroom fitting’, ‘boiler repair’, ‘boiler replacement’, etc. We ran the tests in June and discovered that the best result was for ‘boiler service Cambridge’ and ‘boiler service Peterborough’. This was during the middle of a mini heatwave, so the decision was made to construct a web site offering boiler replacement and servicing in Cambridge.
As we constructed the site, we found that ‘boiler repair’, ‘boiler replacement’, ‘combi gas boiler’, ‘gas safe’ were the main key words to give Cambridge Boiler Services a good return on their investment. Part of our process to help save time is to interview the client and record the results, from this we generate the copy for the website. Both parties found out things that they were not expecting. For example, we found out that Cambridge Boiler Services have fully stocked vans, full of spare parts, saving both time and money for the client whose boiler they are repairing.
Now we had the text and images, we were able to construct the site, initially putting it on our own server for the client to check, when OK’d, the site went live. We then started our Search Optimisation Procedure. In July the site went live, by September all of the chosen keywords were No 1 in Google (‘boiler repairs’, ‘boiler replacement’ and ‘combi gas boiler’). Cambridge Boiler Services are now in the enviable position of having to turn away work, one day in December they turned away approximately £10,000 worth of business!
The process allowed us to find an area of business that the client can specialise in, an area which was ‘untapped’ by other companies offering a similar service. A ‘traditional’ website developer would not have discovered these areas, focusing instead on the design of the site and hoping that this would bring clients in. Moving Up Media work with the client to discover the real key words and not just use the first keywords discussed. We have worked with the client to make a real difference to his business, as a consequence Cambridge Boiler Services are expanding.

Datashredders was established in 2000 and published a very simple website, which although suitable for a business in the year 2000, soon became outdated. Initially there was not a lot of competition in the area, but the website was letting the company down. The site did not reflect the professional service that the company was becoming known for, new visitors to the site were simply not impressed enough to enquire further.
We were contacted by Datashredders, initially for a discussion, to see if we could do anything for them. After our normal keyword research, we designed a website that matched their professional service levels and portrayed the image they wanted to be seen for. To get their message across, we put a moving animation on the front page of the site which explains, with a mixture of words and pictures, exactly what Datashredders offer as a service.
Once the site was finished, we worked on Google and they are now consistently on page one for their chosen keyword search terms. As a result of the new site and the ongoing search engine optimisation, Datashredders have had a 70% increase in the volume of phone calls. They have expanded their staffing levels and increased the number of trucks they operate. Moving Up Media were certainly instrumental in helping Datashredders to achieve increased turnover.
Moving Up Media are now working with Datashredders to successfully introduce the business into new geographical areas that they would not have considered previous to their website relaunch. These are areas where they have not been represented, such as Bedford, Northampton, Colchester. Datashredders are also on the first page of Google for all their chosen areas and are a very happy client.
