WHY IT SHOULD BE YOU AND NOT AN ACTOR

  • Depending on what you are putting across comes better from what is perceived as a real person.
  • With a few goes you get better really quick. You know your subject better than anyone else.
  • The viewers perception is that you are more likely to be telling the truth!
  • If you are going to be running a series of videos, then ideally you want the same person in them. Yes, you maybe able to get a ‘regular person’, but it should be you!

WHAT TOO SAY!

  • Introduce yourself, name and company and what you are going to say and why.
  • Make sure you mention benefits not just features.
  • Educate, don’t sell. The user will be watching because they want to learn not be sold too.
  • Answer questions. What do you get asked most about your product or services? Answer questions or concerns you get asked often.
  • Make sure the user knows what to do at the end of the video, for instance “buy now” or “ring the number on the screen”.

TIPS FOR YOUR FIRST VIDEO

  • Write a script. Don’t try and adlib. You may think you know your subject really well, but once the camera starts recording you get nervous and stumble.
  • Practice using your phones camera. This helps you iron out your script.
  • Plain clothing, no fancy patterns. Unless your a clown!
  • Don’t waffle, keep it short, better to do 3 two minute videos than one 6 min video.
  • Have a prop or something visual, you just talking will get boring.
  • Make sure you have a clear call to action at the end of the video.

Google (SEO) Tips : Part 4 : Day 2 day updates (well ok perhaps weekly)

Thursday, October 13th, 2011

Add content to you site on a regular basis. Google loves fresh content, especially about your subject.

Make sure your new content includes your keywords and key phrases.

If possible syndicate your articles and link back to your site.

Get links to your site by posting replies in forums. Most forums will allow you to have a signature, where you can link to your website.

If you business to consumer, then link your articles on Facebook.

If you don’t have the resources or knowledge to update your site, employ someone that does, you will see a difference.

If you are struggling for ideas then ask someone outside your organization to interview you, imagine you are at a social occasion and need to explain to someone who doesn’t know your industry.

Clutter

On mobiles because of the limited space ‘less is more’. There are lots of consideration but here are some of thoughts

  • Make sure the site can resize
  • Make sure the text can resize
  • Images, size in terms of file size need to be kept small
  • If you do have lots of pages group them well, wikipedia is a huge website but still has a good user experience

Here you can see a nice clean that also works well on mobile

Portrait & Landscape

Mobile phones and tablets have the ability to turn through 90degrees. This means that the web designer needs to make sure the site can ‘Resize’ on the fly. In most cases the phone or phone takes care of the resizing, but a wide website with lots of details is going to struggle.

As you can see in the picture this site looks good both ways. Some sites are built with banners, menu or the logo to tall so that the user has to scroll a lot before getting to information.

List Rule

  • Listing items
  • Clean fonts
  • No complicated backgrounds

Smartphones need design consideration. There is a lot less room on the screen to play with, which means that labelling & navigation needs to be very clear and ideally less than 3 words.

Also you need to make sure the user feels comfortable, meaning that links and buttons need to be clear and easy to press when they are small.

The picture shows ebay, on the desktop it takes one screen, on the mobile 4 – 6

Flash & Apple

As you may or may not know, Iphones & Ipads presently do not have ‘Flash’ support.

What does this mean ?
Well simply put a lot of sites use flash for simple animation.

How does it effect me ?
Well if your site uses flash, then Ipad & Iphones do not show these elements. Some times this can be an advert, menu, banner, images or in some extreme cases the whole website.

What do we do to fix this ?
There are other techniques that can be used. One is Jquery, this uses similar technology to allow for simple animation.
A side issue is that presently Flash is not good for Google.
